Why Screen-Free Matters: The Story Behind CampSnap

Why Screen-Free Matters: The Story Behind CampSnap

It all started with summer camp.

Every year, Brian would send his kids off to camp with a couple of disposable cameras. The idea was simple: let them capture memories without screens, just like we used to. But there was one little problem...

Kids don’t really know how to use film.

He’d get the cameras back weeks later and laugh at the photos — dozens of blurry shots of feet, out-of-focus sunsets, and the classic close-up flash photos of sleeping bunkmates being rudely awakened. 😆 It was cute, chaotic, and totally camp.

But not exactly worth the $20 per disposable camera plus another $20 (and two weeks!) to get the film developed at CVS — if you can even find one that still does it. Gone are the days of 1-hour photo shops unless you're lucky enough to live near a local film enthusiast keeping the craft alive.

Brian knew there had to be a better way.

So he looked... and looked... and couldn’t find anything. Not one affordable, durable, screen-free camera made for kids. So he made one.

With his college electrical engineering background, he started 3D-printing parts at the local library and tinkering away in the garage. Eventually, he had a working prototype.

That’s how CampSnap was born.

our first 500 units — and they sold out in one week.

What started as a fun tool for kids at summer camp quickly turned into a viral sensation. Because as it turns out, kids weren’t the only ones craving a break from screens.

People of all ages were craving simplicity. To be unplugged.

Memories First. Screen Last.

We’re surrounded by screens — in our pockets, on our wrists, in our cars... even on our fridges and microwaves. Life moves fast. We’re constantly connected. But at CampSnap, we believe some moments are better lived than streamed.

Our camera was designed to capture the memory, not distract from it.

You press the button, it takes a photo — no screen, , no pressure to edit or post. Just a little flash, a soft click, and a memory locked in.

And the best part?
You relive it later.

Not instantly. Not with likes or comments.
Just a quiet moment of surprise and joy when you plug in your CampSnap and finally get to see what you captured.

It’s a little dose of delayed gratification in an instant gratification world.
